| I just realized how much I really enjoy the Village Voice. I've recently gotten internet back to my mac mini and have been looking through my bookmarks. If you don't read it, y ou should check it out. I think it will be a daily visit.
PS. this chris thing is really nice. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| Number 1: I'm BACK IN LITTLE ROCK!!! Woo Hoo. And to my surprise I did actually pass my fieldwork site. (NOTE: I'm the first student who has ever passed this fieldwork clinical instructor...oh yeah!)
Dallas decided to try to kill me before I left. I wrecked my car 1 week before departure. It is still currently in the shop in Dallas. However, thanks to Chris, I am here in Little Rock. Also, I dropped my phone and it stopped working. The day I was attempting to call and find out about insurance, call repair places, etc. (Therefore, I NEEDED my phone!)
One of my patient's grandmothers made me a cake to say "farewell, we'll miss you".
My parents I think have not only come to terms with the fact that I'm dating Chris, but kinda pretty much like him. They've both made multiple comments in a very positive light towards him. He even hung out here one night this week and chatted with my dad and everything! Really pretty cool.
I have a job. I think I"ve already mentioned this, but in case I haven't...I have a job!
I'm attempting to complete licensure applications, and it's kinda kicking me in the arse.
My thesis is still not complete! STILL NOT COMPLETE! Sheesh, I want this damn thing over with! I found out that the "super together" girl who is writing hers just recently finished and 2 of the 3 professors on our advisory committees are the same, so I don't feel so bad.
I'm going to bed! Give me a call, drop me an email. I'm flying to dallas wed (1 week from today) to pick up my car and drive back. YAY!!!! I'll have a car again! | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| My CI and I had a heart to heart. She said I won't have any problems passing. I've stepped up in every area that I needed. THAT MEANS I'M THE FIRST STUDENT TO PASS HER!!! Woo Hoo. However, she did take a few stabs at me in the process, "your school shouldn't send students who aren't very strong in this area", "You should take your experience back to your school, so they know the challenge of baylor", etc. She also said a few things like, "you don't like asking questions and admitting you don't know what's going on". Which is a story all to itself! But, I"m leaving friday. that's the take home message. WOO HOO. She also told me I would excel in outpatient, which I've kinda always thought, so maybe, JUST maybe i'll go view St. Vincent's OP department.
ps. I got into UAMS! (In case you haven't kept up, I applied for the doctorate of public health program) WOO HOO so many causes for celebration. | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| My clinical instructor informed me today that I may need an extra week here at Baylor before she was comfortable passing me. What an uplifting spirit. PLEAES PLEASE PLEASE don't let this be true. If I prove myself Independent, I have 8 days and counting. NOT TO MENTION, I'll be her first STUDENT EVER to pass. I'm a little stressed, a little excited.
(must stick to excited, when she stresses me, I do horribly)
I'm not sure if I said or not, but I "unofficially" officially have a job...in Little Rock! WOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| So, this weekend brandy came down to dallas to see me. (I have only 2 weeks left, FYI!!)
A small recap of the weekend... friday we went to the elbow room (my fav bar) had some drinks and food. Then we went to the knox street pub, a somewhat strange little place next to a apple store. Then we went to a midnight showing of clockwork orange at Inwood (a restored historic theater)...and we had a beer while watching the movie. that was awesome!
saturday we got up a little late and went to the dallas world aquarium. it was pretty darn cool! all kinds of fun areas like rainforest and a mayan area, etc. My fav's were the sloth...who was just hanging out in the foliage around the concession stand...yeah, not really in an exhibit. You could easily have touched him. the even bent over and came near touching of the guys standing around. We saw the penguins get fed and other fun fun things! then we went to an art festival. We went to the asian art museum and a walked around a little. that was pretty darn cool!

Finally saturday night, we went to Billy Bob's ... the largest country bar in the country. hmmm, it was not my 'cup of tea'. the people were pretty evil and let me tell you...it took FOREVER to find the place. Everyone kept saying it's go 28 to main. well, there was NO SIGN saying main street. When we finally found it, we went back to see...nope, no sign ANYWHERE. Well, then...inside this bar there are arcade games, pinball machines (which, i admit is pretty cool), even carnival type games where you can win prizes. now, if some of this sounds little "kiddy" to you...that's probably because they let kids in. Yes, at 2 am, a drunk mother was slow dancing with her approximately 12 year old son out on the dance floor. NO KIDDING! I have a fuzzy photo to prove it! There was also a BBQ restaurant complete with LARGE carvings of hillbillies. There was even a LARGE dodge truck inside the bar.

Here's the fun part though. Outside of the women's restroom, there was an area in which they had a (now dead) stuffed real bull for you to get your picture made on. And, oh yeah, we did! Brandy and Jeremy on the bull in Billy Bob's in Fort Worth , TX. My life in Texas is now complete, I can come back to civilization a happy man!
today (sunday) we went to the dallas museum of art, the taco diner and called it a weekend. it was fab! | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| So,
Three weeks and counting!
I have two interviews in the rock on Wednesday. I'm flying in around 8 tuesday night and back to dallas around 7 wed night! A quick trip, for sure!!
I have my Doctorate of Public Health interview at UAMS.
AND, I have a serious job interview at Good Shepherd in WLR as well! I've been talking to the recruiter and a girl I met at the Barrister's ball (and met again at a "get together" at her house later that month). It looks like ED's connections may land me a pretty sweet job! The therapist I met is really cool and talks very highly of good shepherd, so I'm hoping things work out!
Everyone cross your fingers for me all day wed! It'll be a doosy. Maybe a job and a doc program all in one 24 hour visit to little rock!
I cannot wait to be back in town...I'm soooo over fieldwork! ;-)
In other news, I've been working on my thesis and watching a 4400 marathon all day. It's been fan-freakin-tastic! | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| . . . so tonight is sat in dallas. And, I decided to look up UCA on wikipedia...
"The school is most respected for its programs in Education, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy."
There are also articles on Honors College and other fun things...including a link to the PRISM website.
I just thought that was kind of interesting!
Hendrix also is in the wikipedia, for all of those hendrix alum who are out there!
ooo, and jaymi so is Baylor. There's even info on the NoZe brothers (the secret society) and the quad...that we were talking about. haha, and i must admit there are some INTERESTING baylor facts...from good to bad...
including... "Country music singer Willie Nelson attended Baylor for one year." | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| Last night I went out with a bunch of therapists. It was SOOo much fun!! We drank and then eventually went out to dance. I had to be at the hospital at 7:45 this morning, so I had to leave early. I was so sad!
But . . .
Tonight is a birthday party in which there will be many drunken therapists. WOO HOO!!!!!
Last night, we all got drunk enough to talk about my CI. Basically, everyone thinks she's a bitch, well everyone besides one tech.
I'm going to make it. Yesterday was my half way point. From here on out, every day I'm here....I have less time left than I've been here! awesome!
I hope to have mnay fun stories when I get back to my dorm tonight or tomorrow..... | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| that' i've posted about this yet. I found out that I was selected to interview at UAMS! And, they only select the max number of students who will be accepted as interviewers. So, from what they told me, you're practically in if you get selected for interview. I booked my plane ticket yesterday. I fly out at like 8 Tue June 6 and back in at 8:30 Wed June 7. That should be exciting.
PS. I still hate my fieldwork. It's only getting worse...I hope I pass. Pitty me, please. :D | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| So, I finally got the TWU letter. It says....
Congratulations, you are accepted to the PhD program for Occupational Therapy at TWU.
WOO HOO. One program in.
The more I stay here, the more I don't think it's not for me. . . The more I hope that UAMS soon sends the letter saying, congratulations, you have an interview!
In other news. I'm hanging out with a guy tonight...a "pocket gay" as my sis called him. haha. we shall see how that goes.
and...my CI and I had a "heart to heart" today. I had to apologize for a lot that I shouldn't have, but she's one of those people that will hold it against you if you don't. But, I think our "line of communication" is good and open. She told me today that this "is not going down an unsuccessful road. This can still be a successful experience for you." It'd be just about right if by the end of the clinical I was in love with this place. (I kinda hope that that is what happens!) | comments: Leave a comment |
| i miss you little rock, and all of you peeps in it!
ps. i'm suppose to get internet in my dorm room in the next week! | comments: Leave a comment |

| I had such a grand time this weekend... It was seriously good times. Even to the point that I was swimming in my boxers in the pool at 3 am. nice. very nice.
Today was uneventful. But, it probably should have been after the weekend. After everyone left, I was just really sad for the rock. Ahhhh, I cannot wait to be back. I'm kinda hopin' for RiverFest just b/c I have such a fond place in my heart for it!
For the (I'm sure few) people who I haven't griped to, this fieldwork has not been just outstanding. I'm learning, but I feel that I'm doing so mostly independently. I have stories a plenty. I do get along with a few of the OT's who are not on my team. And, I'm working pretty hard at getting along with other people who are. I stay busy, busy, busy that's for sure!
I'm ready to hear from the UAMS college of public health. And, I'm ready to start hunting a job! YAY!!!
Stay in touch everyone! I miss you tons!! | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| "When you hear from the Graduate School about acceptance into the program and you establish a portal id and password then contact me for advising for fall classes and give me your portal id and your student number."
Does that mean I probably got in? My advisor from TWU sent me this email. | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |
| several things.
#1. I have keys to my car! They were indeed at the very first place david and i went yesterday morning. they just didn't look well or something. I called the night manager when she came on (at 9:30ish) and she said that she had them! WOOP WOOP
#2. The elbow room ... a neighborhood bar easily within walking distance ... I truly love. They have a "jukebox" that actually plays on the entire bar soundsystem. Included in the cd's: the who (who's next), 2 white stripes albums, the strokes, smashing pumpkins, the used, nirvana, and other fantastically "jeremy" albums! Also, they have Guinness on tap.
#3. Found "lower greenville" last night. It was pretty cool. (just pretty, though). It's basically dixson street just a bit bigger. some of the clubs looked pretty grand, i should look into them a little more. I think it's been decided if we go out clubbing two nights, we may have to go to lower greenville one night and (duh, duh, duh ,duuuhhhh) oaklawn the other. we'll see.
ps. i haven't planned or booked my free trip yet. here's to a good time. | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| I lost my keys last night. I stayed with John so I didn't need them to get to my car, so I didn't notice that they were missing at the most opportune time to recover them.
I've made phone calls.
to no avail.
(it'll cost a TON to get them replaced...specifically my mazda key is looking to be in the $200-300 range. THAT'S too much for a kid in Dallas on a fieldwork with no job.) | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| quick update on my life :D
I went to the mavericks game last night. American Airlines gave away tickets (round trip) to austin, san antonio, st. louis, or kansis city. Yeah, just for going EVERYONE in the stadium got round trip tickets. WOO HOO...that's freakin' awesome
My time at baylor rehab has been great and continues to be. I'm goign to start to be really challenged. My CI (clinical instructor) just picked like 3 difficult patients to give me one-on-one. So, I'm reading up on treatment tonight, and sleeping!
I've still yet to meet anyone really outstanding. I went out with John on Easter sunday and had a BLAST...must do again, soon!
That's about my life right now! | comments: Leave a comment |
| I just got in from the mall. I was going to find a t-shirt at old navy. I decided to not get one b/c that would be a sorta waist of money. Then I got to my room to find that my 'rents had sent an easter package ... with money! WOO HOO. I shall buy a shirt after all.
On to the subject of this post. I went to buy a t-shirt after completing the PhD interview at TWU. ahhhh, it went just ok. I completely forgot some of the terminology to occupational adaptation during the interview (the person who wrote the theory was sitting to my direct left). I was on videoconference with a professor in Houston and at times completely forgot to look at the GIGANAMOUS screan in the front of the room to acknowledge her. I found out that they've never accepted a student straight from a graduate program in to the PhD program. (However, most students get a MOT--which is non-research based, and at UCA we get a MSOT which is quite research based...so maybe that'll play to my advantage).
Then again, maybe I'm meant to get a DrPH at UAMS, or maybe I'm just meant to be a therapist. Alas, we shall see. However, being back at a University and in a classroom really, really makes me want to pursue more education. So, I'm (of course) hoping that I'll get accepted to both programs and have to choose, but maybe it would be easier if just one wanted me.
I should find out if I got in at TWU the first week of may (which, coincidentally) is the same week I should find out if the College of Public Health at UAMS wants to interview me. So, this could be a fab week, or a week of demise. hahahahaha
back to reality. I'm going to work out now. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
